After the success of the AAR's 1937 design boxcar with 10’ inside height, variations were bound to occur. The 1942 design raised the inside height to 10’6". The most notable visual feature of these cars was the use of a Dreadnaught end with 5/5 stamping and greater spacing where the panels of the door were riveted.
The Chicago and Northwestern and its subsidiary, the Omaha Road, began receiving its ’42 cars in October, 1941.
Appliances were varied on the CMO/CNW cars.

The body was assembled with a resin safe contact cement and reinforced with ACC. All detail parts were applied to match the prototype.
The underbody was detailed in accordance with the kit instructions. The air line is floral wire. The piping is .010 wire. The brake rigging is .012 wire.
The trucks are Kadee trucks. The Kadee wheel were replaced with Intermountain's 33" semi–scale wheels.
The entire car was primed with Polly S Undercoat Light Gray.
The sides were painted with a 50:50 mixture of Polly S Boxcar Red and Special Oxide Red.
The ends, roof, and underbody are painted with Polly S Tarnished Black.
The car was clear coated with Polly S Gloss Finish for decaling. After the decals were applied, the car was coated with Polly S Flat Finish.
The trucks were painted with Polly S Weathered Black and weathered with Accuflex Grimy Black, Polly S Rust, and Polly S Oily Black.
Decals were applied per pictures from the Sunshine Models Prototype Data Sheet.
